Pick-3 and streaks

Modern Warfare 4 Perks

First-person Modern Warfare 4 gunplay still used for the perks briefing

MW4 perks are a pick-3, not a five-slot Black Ops novel. Every perk has to work. The beta consensus we actually played: Fast Hands as the most consistent Perk 2, Blood Rush if you chain respawn gunfights, Ninja if footsteps were still loud on your headset, Overkill if you insist on a sniper plus a real primary. Full classes sit on loadouts. The interactive version is the planner.

Streaks were retuned during the test. Attack Helicopter health was cut 45% on August 23. Open Beta day one (August 28) listed TTK, spawns, movement, killstreaks, and aim assist as the five systems being rewritten. Do not copy a Weekend One streak path into ranked sight-unseen.

What pick-3 actually means

You do not get a junk perk “for the third slot.” If you are not using the perk every round, swap it. Fast Hands is the reload / swap tax that makes Oris and shotguns honest. Blood Rush pays you for winning the next fight after a kill — it is a respawn perk, not a Search and Destroy perk. Ninja is audio insurance; after the August 22 footstep nerf it was less mandatory, not useless.

Tactical Sprint Assist on delay 0 was a settings choice, not a perk, and Open Beta called out a Tac Sprint perk in the August 28 notes. Read those notes on patch notes before you assume Weekend One binds still match.

Beta perk habits that survived the patches

  • Fast Hands as default Perk 2 unless the class is a pure AR laser
  • Blood Rush on Hardpoint and TDM, skip it on SnD
  • Ninja if your headset still hears gear rattle through walls
  • Overkill only when the secondary is a real gun, not a pistol flex

Lethal, tactical, field upgrade

Trophy System is the Hardpoint tax. Flash or stun for entry. Semtex for the door you already won. Field upgrades in the beta were the usual MW toolkit; Dead Silence as a field upgrade (when present) is the Ninja stack, not a replacement for movement skill. See movement.

Frangible rounds were nerfed on August 22: slow duration down 26.8%, magnitude down 21.4%. If a YouTube class still sells Frangible as a crutch, it is a Weekend One clip.

Streaks after the helicopter cut

UAV and Portable Radar beat map-knowledge streaks on Kill Block, because the building changes. Attack Helicopter was a round-closer until August 23 cut its health by 45%. Small-arms and launchers delete it now. Precision streaks that need a learned headglitch are weaker on a map you have not seen.

Open Beta promised a wider streak pass with the TTK rewrite. Until launch notes land, treat streaks as support (UAV, Trophy on the hill) rather than a 10-kill fantasy.

Frequently asked questions

How many perk slots does MW4 have?+

Three. There is no fourth “wildcard” slot in the beta Create-a-Class.

Is Ninja still required after the footstep patch?+

Less than on day one. Audio range was cut August 22. It is insurance, not a tax.

Did they nerf scorestreaks in the beta?+

Yes. Attack Helicopter health dropped 45% on August 23, and Open Beta listed killstreaks as a rewrite target.
