Modern Warfare 4 Platforms
Modern Warfare 4 is the first Call of Duty that refuses last-gen. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. No PS4, no Xbox One. No Game Pass on day one — Microsoft has said at least a year. Cross-play and cross-progression are on, including Switch 2. Split-screen is PS5 and Xbox Series.

The four platforms
Xbox Series X|S includes Xbox Play Anywhere: buy once, play on console and Xbox on PC. PlayStation 5 is a standard SKU. PC is three storefronts — Battle.net, Steam, Xbox on PC — with Beenox leading the PC work, including expanded ray tracing (reflections, AO, shadows) across modes. Switch 2 is native, built with Digital Legends, with optional Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Reporting from August 2026 indicated the Switch 2 physical SKU is a code-in-box, not a cartridge of the full install — confirm the eShop listing before you pay a retailer premium for plastic.
Texture streaming is on all platforms, all modes. Multiplayer (including private matches) and DMZ need a live connection. That is an always-online tax, not a rumor. Campaign is the mode that can still make sense if the network dies, as the leftover beta client showed with Entrenched offline.
Cross-play, Game Pass, Warzone last-gen
Cross-play is supported across PS5, Xbox Series, PC, and Switch 2. Ranked will almost certainly let you disable it; that is a playlist setting, not a platform lock. Game Pass absence is the political headline of this release. Plan to pay $70 or $100.
Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One is being wound down around Season 01. New downloads already stopped; the in-game store went away; playability ends when MW4’s first season starts.
