Campaign lore
Modern Warfare 4 Story
Modern Warfare 4’s story is a two-handed brief. On one side, a South Korean squad tries not to die in a war that started this morning. On the other, Captain Price is a wanted man whose private war is about to become everyone’s problem. The campaign is written to feel like the reboot’s breaking point, not a reset.
This page stays light on ending spoilers. Mission order and the Entrenched assault live in the walkthrough. DMZ’s Hajin exclusion zone is the narrative hangover; read DMZ after you finish.
Private Park and the front
Park Hyun Jun is not a Tier One fantasy. He is a young South Korean soldier in his first real fight, dropped into trench lines, urban rubble, and a power station that cannot be allowed to go critical. First Lieutenant West, a U.S. Marine voiced by Luke Tennie, is the American NCO in that squad — the reminder that U.S. forces stationed in Korea would not be spectators.
Infinity Ward has said the Korean setting is a first at this scale for Modern Warfare. The reveal trailer’s “six days earlier” cut is the campaign’s structural trick: you see the invasion’s shock, then rewind into the choices that made the shock inevitable. Locations confirmed by Activision include Korean trenches, New York interiors, Paris chases, Mumbai night raids, and assaults to retake occupied city blocks.
Price, Valeria, and Ghost
Captain Price is hunted for assassinating General Herschel Shepherd at the end of Modern Warfare III. The man who used to be the voice of the rules now writes his own. Valeria Garza, Las Almas’ leader and a former Task Force 141 enemy, is aligned with him. That alliance is the campaign’s moral weather: you are not meant to be comfortable with it.
Ghost is not along for the ride. Official materials describe him at odds with Price, which is the reboot’s most interesting character split since Shepherd’s betrayal. The campaign hub frames the missions; this page is the who and why. Vault’s Hostile Alliance pack puts Price, Valeria, Ghost, and Blix in multiplayer skins — cosmetics, not story unlocks. See Vault Edition if that is the actual question.
What the story leaves on the map
DMZ is set after the campaign in Hajin, a South Korean exclusion zone that also borders Russia and North Korea, created by a nuclear reactor meltdown. Operators go in as CIA off-books assets to recover abandoned weapons and tech. If the campaign is the war, DMZ is the salvage. Story Missions inside DMZ continue the narrative in live raids rather than a second single-player disc.
That is why we keep Hajin next to this dossier. Playing DMZ first will spoil the campaign’s aftermath. Playing the campaign first makes the radiation, the prison, and the casino vault read as places instead of loot pins.
